Easy On, Easy Off: Tips for Choosing a Front Closer Bra

If you’re tired of closing your bra in the front and spin it around, or if you just want to stop having to reach behind your back, there's a solution. Enter a front closure bra. Unlike, standard models that close in the centre of your back, these fasten in the front which can be a huge plus. The smooth, broad back band on front-closure bras can also assist in smoothing out the back and minimise any rolls and dents that a regular back-closing bra may cause.

 Style Range

Create the perfect lift and shape with soft and comfortable women's front-closure bras. Whatever type of bra you prefer, there is a wide range of front-closure styles to choose from.

 Everyday Front-Closure BrasFront-Closure Bras

Front-closure bras for daily wear feature seamless cups for an invisible look under clothing. There are also wireless alternatives for daily wear. They are comfortable, with no underwire but still provide light support. They can be great for lounging around or sleeping. If you're someone who prefers to wear a bra even when relaxing at home, a wireless front-closure bra is the way to go. Without the closure in the back, there are no uncomfortable bulges to lay on, just a smooth fit all the way around. Ladies with larger busts can enjoy the convenience of full-coverage bra. These are designed to support more support and coverage.

Supportive and Shaping Bras

Supportive and shaping bras with front closure can be underwired and provide lift and support. These often come with moulded cups. Ladies with no large busts should go for the push-up supportive and shaping option, since it enhances cleavage with extra padding. On the other hand, minimizer bras are designed for larger busts, reducing projection while shaping.

Sports and Activewear Bras

Sports and activewear bras are easy to put on and off. They come with compression or encapsulation for support. The racerback bra, on the other hand, offers better shoulder mobility and prevents straps from slipping.

Special Purpose Bras

Special-purpose bras are utilised for post-surgery recovery. These are soft and supportive, often with front-adjustable straps. Some of these bras such as the mastectomy type are designed with pockets for prosthetics.

Closure Types

Women's front-closure bras are available with a variety of clasp options. Many alternatives have hook-and-eye closures, while others are zipped up, and some have both hook-and-eye and zippers for further security (albeit a little bulkier beneath clothes); some models even utilise Velcro to keep them closed.

If the clasp on your front-closure bra does not stay hooked, this could indicate that you are using the incorrect band size. If your band is too small, it may put pressure on the closure, causing it to pop open. This also keeps the band and centre gore from lying flat against your skin, which could cause the clasp or hook-and-eye to come undone. A well-fitting front-close bra is essential for avoiding closures that pop up.

Straps

Many front-close bras also include straps that adjust in the front rather than the back (which is far more convenient, in my opinion). Some versions also feature padded, cushiony straps for increased comfort. If you prefer options, look for one with convertible straps.

Material Selection

Front-closure bras, like back-close types, come in a variety of fabrics (e.g., cotton, viscose, nylon, spandex, elastin, etc.), and the choice is largely personal. Typically, the less stretch you apply, the more lift and support you will experience. For optimal breathability, use a cotton or viscose-heavy blend. If you want a quick-drying and sweat-wicking bra, choose ultra-stretchy, mostly synthetic materials that resemble sports bras rather than classic underwire bras.

SizingSizing Bras

The sizing of a front-close bra is similar to that of standard back-close models; however, the ideal fit for your body may differ from brand to brand. Consider sizing down for super-stretchy types (typically seamless or wireless) to avoid a sagging or too stretched-out bra after wearing and washing. A too-small cup size overall size, if the style has XS-XL sizing instead of cup and band sizing-can cause a front-close style to roll up, whereas a size that's too big may result in straps slipping off your shoulders or additional fabric in the cup area.

Additional Considerations

Front closures with hook-and-eyes provide greater support and coverage than those with a single clasp, and they typically feature two columns of hook-and-eyes to let you adjust to your preferred fit. Also, consider whether you want an underwire. An underwire front-closure bra does not allow you to change the band's fit.

Simply unhook or undo the clasp in the front and remove the straps one at a time, then slip the bra off like you would a jacket. Try not to stretch the bra any more than necessary to help extend the life of your bra.
